[REPACK] Alpha WoW 0.5.3 (Classic Alpha)

Windows 10 1803 (build 17063) or above.

Repack Overview

This is a "Sandbox" repack designed for history preservation and exploration. It is not a fully playable game in the modern sense, but a museum piece.

• Core: based on The Alpha Project. (Github)

• Features: Spawns, basic spells, working quests, and the original "Skills" system (which existed before Talents).

• Visuals: Contains the legendary "Old Ironforge" (multiple levels), Green-sewer Undercity, and early zone layouts that were cut from Vanilla.

How to Setup (Step-by-Step)

The Alpha client is tricky. You cannot just run the EXE and expect it to work. Follow these exact steps.

1. Server Setup

1. Extract: Download both the Repack and the Client. Extract them to a folder (e.g., C:\AlphaWoW).

2. Start the Server:

   • Run the file Start Alpha Core.bat.

   • Wait for the console to finish loading.

3. Update (Optional):

   • If you need to reset settings to default, run Update Alpha Core.bat.

   • Warning: This resets the IP to 127.0.0.1 and restores default GM accounts.

2. Client Setup

1. Prepare the Client:

   • Locate WoWClient.exe in your client folder.

   • Crucial Step: You typically cannot run this file directly. You must create a Shortcut.

   • Right-click WoWClient.exe -> Create Shortcut.

   • Right-click the new shortcut -> Properties.

   • In the Target box, add -uptodate to the very end of the line.

     • Example: "C:\AlphaWoW\WoWClient.exe" -uptodate

2. Login:

   • Launch the game using your Modified Shortcut.

   • Account Creation: There is no registration page. Simply type any username and password to log in. The server will auto-create the account.

   • Note: If you get a "Disconnected" error, click the "Change Realm" button and select the available test realm.

3. LAN / Public Setup

If you want to play with friends on the same network:

1. Run Server Address Change.bat.

2. Type your Local IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.5) and press Enter.

❓ FAQ & Troubleshooting

Q: The FPS is terrible (10-20 FPS). How do I fix it?

• A: The 2003 client does not play nice with modern Direct3D. You must switch to OpenGL.

  1. Open the WTF folder inside your client.

  2. Open Config.wtf with Notepad.

  3. Find SET gxApi "dx3d" and change it to:

     SET gxApi "opengl"
     

  4. Save and restart. This usually fixes the lag instantly.

Q: My character is stuck/falling through the world.

• A: This is common in 0.5.3 as map data is incomplete. Use the chat command .worldport [MapID] [X] [Y] [Z] to teleport out, or create a new character.

Q: Where are the Talents?

• A: They don't exist yet! In 0.5.3, you use a "Skill Point" system similar to Diablo II or Classic Hunter Pet training. Look for the Skills menu in your interface.

Q: Can I use addons?

• A: No. Modern addons (and even Vanilla 1.12 addons) will not work. You must use specific 0.5.3 Lua scripts, which are very rare.
